Reflective Journal Writing

( Delayed post as I have been suffering with lack of internet which has put my posting on pause. )

Starting my reflective journal and day by day writing down my thoughts and feelings has opened me up to writing more frequently, this is something I thought I wasn't able to do and the reason behind me never writing a journal previously. Knowing that no one is going to read it apart from myself has given me confidence to write down freely and not over think too much. As David said "it means that writing may not be as constrained as it would be if it were revealed to others."(Boud, 2001, p. 16). Yes my grammar and punctuation isn't correct but thats the beauty of a journal it doesn't need to be CORRECT.

After applying all 9 different ways to my journal writing I have found some styles easy than others. When I say easier I mean an easier way of expressing my daily thoughts on to paper. Been a more visual and practical learner I have found making lists and diagrams a way to capture key points that I can later reflect on. Also with the use of highlighters I have been highlighting key points to make them visually stand out. I was inspired to do this after reading Emily Richards's blog and the way she used colour really made sense, I can now easily pick them out when I look back through my journal to use them as evidence when I write my essay.

Elaborating more I have found describing my day and writing it down as a mini story has been an interesting learning experience. Going through chronologically what has happened the events, where its taken place and general description in detail has allowed me to further express the outcome of my experience as well as the ability to practise my writing. Reading back on my previous entries its come to light that not only have I been writing about my teaching practise but also about my personal life, other part time jobs and the days that I am not working, it has become a routine. "this is not to say that learning is the only perspective on journal writing but rather to acknowledge that journal writing is intimately associated with learning."(Boud, 2001)

Here is an image of my Journal where I write all my entires, my note book that I make notes in about the reader and valuable quotes taken from further reading articles, my iPad I use to skype call and keep updated with my blog posts. These are all sources that I need to use while studying my professional practise to enhance my learning.
